The Castro Marim Sound Archive will be one of the long-lasting legacies of the Particular Universal project. Carlos Norton, from the Fungo Azul association, is responsible for recording hundreds of sounds that will be part of the archive. In the process, we get to know more about the archiving of Sounds and Sonic Landscapes and this undertaking of creating new memories.

It’s also evident that the excitement and sonic landscape of the Medieval Days is essential to the Castro Marim Sound Archive. After a two-year gap, this year marks the return of the most sought after event of the municipality, where Carlos Norton was present and captured the sounds, both particular and universal, of this temporary transformation of the local quotidian – saved for posterity.

In these two videos, recorded on the 28th and 29th of August, we take a look at the work that Carlos Norton has been developing for the Castro Marim Sound Archive.

At the Only Connect 2022 festival in Oslo, Norway, composer and artist Erik Dæhlin presented two entirely new pieces where he examined the area between the outlets of the Akerselva and Tøyenbekken rivers in Bjørvika, Norway, as well as the Guadiana river delta. These pieces were presented as two installations, positioned so as to be in dialogue with one another. These installations had their origin in part in the work developed by the artist during his residency at Castro Marim, part of the Particular Universal project, which is financed by the EEA Grants mechanism. They were also supported by the city of Oslo.
