Erik Dæhlin in residence

Particular Universal's next artist-inresidence is the Norwegian Erik Dæhlin, a composer working across Sound, Image and Text, creating chamber music pieces, electroacoustic music, installations and other hybrid forms, and whose academic research work explores the concept of Memory as artistic material.

Between the 13th and 24th of March, he'll explore the different places and environments within the Castro Marim Municipality (including the Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Marsh Natural Preserve, with a particular focus on the Guadiana river delta), making a record of his impressions through texts, field recordings and photography, all of which he will work on with a view towards a performance / installation to take place on the 25th of March, at the Castro Marim castle. The following month, in late April, this work will also be evoked in a piece performed by the artist at the Only Connect festival in Oslo.

This public presentation of Erik's work will take place on the 25th of March at 17:00, with admittance being free.

This the project's first artistic residency curated by nyMusikk, its Norwegian partner. Particular Universal is financed by the EEA Grants mechanism.

Start of the Castro Marim Sound Archive

The Castro Marim Sound Archive is underway!

The creation of the Castro Marim Sound Archive is part of a global strategy for enriching and increasing the visibility of the material and immaterial heritage of the Municipality, in this case through sonic documentation made through field recordings, a recognizably important practice when it comes to preserving aesthetic, environmental and social knowledge.

This work is being developed alongside Carlos Norton / Associação Fungo Azul.

1st Artistic Residency - Gala Drop

Beginning on February 7th and lasting two weeks, the first artistic residency in the scope of the Particular Universal project took place, curated by project partners Filho Único. The protagonists were Gala Drop from Lisbon, who have been described as practitioners of a kind of "rainforest futurism" by British critic Matthew 'Woebot' Ingram. Having started out a decade and a half ago, the band's current iteration of Nelson Gomes (synths), Afonso Simões (drums) and Rui Dâmaso (bass) worked on new songs to be presented live in May throughout this residency at the headquarters of local association The Beekeepers.
